Stock Up on Reading for Fall: Friends of the Library Book Sale Runs October 2–4
The Friends of the Flower Mound Public Library hold their fall used book sale Oct. 2–4, with a Friday pre-sale and free entry on Saturday and Sunday.

A Long Weekend of Books at the Flower Mound Public Library
If your reading pile has run thin heading into fall, the Friends of the Flower Mound Public Library is restocking it for you. The group’s fall used book sale runs Thursday, October 2, through Saturday, October 4, 2026, inside the library — and the cost to walk out with a bag of titles ranges from five dollars to nothing at all, depending on when you show up.
How the Three Days Break Down
The sale follows a tiered schedule that rewards early birds and bargain hunters alike.
Friday, October 2 — Pre-Sale, 5:00–7:00 p.m. This is the first-look session, and admission is five dollars per person. That cover charge gets you into the room before the general public, which matters when the best donated hardcovers and collectible paperbacks tend to move fast. Cash or check only — plan accordingly before you arrive.
Saturday, October 3 — 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Doors open to everyone at no charge on Saturday. This is the highest-traffic session and typically the largest selection. Arrive closer to 11 a.m. if you want first pass at whatever remained after Friday evening. Again, bring cash or a checkbook; no card readers are in play.
Sunday, October 4 — 1:00–4:00 p.m. The final session is also free. Inventory will be lighter by Sunday afternoon, but Friends sales at the Flower Mound library are known for deep enough donations that late arrivals still find worthwhile picks. It is also the quieter of the two free sessions, which suits browsers who prefer more elbow room.
Why the Friends Sale Is Worth Marking on the Calendar
The Friends of the Flower Mound Public Library is a volunteer-driven nonprofit whose proceeds go directly back to library programming — author visits, summer reading prizes, children’s events, and materials the Town’s base budget does not always cover. Buying a three-dollar novel here is a more direct act of local support than most community gestures require.
The donated inventory spans genres: fiction and nonfiction for adults, children’s picture books, middle-grade chapter books, cookbooks, travel guides, audiobooks, and occasional DVDs. Condition varies, but the Friends sort and cull donations, so the tables are not a charity-bin rummage. Most items are priced individually; bulk pricing sometimes applies on the final day.
Logistics to Know Before You Go
The Flower Mound Public Library sits in a well-traveled part of town with established parking. The pre-sale on Friday evening falls at a time when the lot is less congested than weekend hours, which is another practical argument for paying the five-dollar entry if your schedule allows.
Payment is cash or check at all three sessions — no exceptions have been noted in past sales. If you bring a tote bag or box, loading up is faster; the sale floor can get busy on Saturday morning.
For anyone who wants to donate books ahead of the sale rather than buy, the Friends accept donations through the library’s regular donation procedures; contact the library directly for current drop-off details.
A Saturday Add-On Worth Noting
For residents who want to turn October 3 into a full community Saturday, the Town’s Environmental Services division and the library are co-hosting a Tree Walk at Westchester Park Pavilion from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. that same day. The program is designed to help participants identify what makes individual trees distinctive — a fitting afternoon complement to a morning spent at the book sale, particularly for families with curious kids.
