Your Best Chance This Summer to Stock Up on Reading Before School Starts

The Friends of the Flower Mound Public Library are running their annual used book sale August 7 through 9, 2026, inside the library’s Community Program Room. The timing is deliberate — it lands right at the tail end of summer break, giving families, students, and anyone else trying to build out a reading pile one last practical opportunity before the school-year calendar takes over.

The sale spans three sessions with different admission terms for each day, so it pays to know which window fits your schedule before you show up.

How the Three Days Break Down

Friday, August 7 — 5:00 to 7:00 PM This is the preview session, and it costs $5 to get in. That fee buys you first access to the full inventory before the general public arrives. If you have specific genres or authors you are hunting for, Friday evening is the session worth paying for. The crowd is typically lighter, and the shelves have not been picked over yet.

Saturday, August 8 — 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM Free admission. Saturday is the high-traffic day, which means more browsers but also more opportunity for serendipitous finds. Arrive closer to 11:00 AM if selection matters more to you than a relaxed pace.

Sunday, August 9 — 1:00 to 4:00 PM Also free. Sunday sessions at library book sales tend to produce the best bargains, as the Friends group frequently marks down remaining stock to clear the room. If volume matters more than variety, Sunday afternoon is a smart play.

What You Will Find

The sale features gently donated books, DVDs, and CDs across a range of subjects and genres. Donated collections tend to reflect the tastes of a suburban North Texas community — expect solid offerings in fiction, cooking, gardening, history, and children’s titles. DVDs can be a quiet win at these sales; prices are low and the physical media holds up well.

Where Exactly to Go

The Flower Mound Public Library sits at 3030 Broadmoor Lane. The Community Program Room is inside the building; library staff can direct you when you walk in. Parking is available on site.

Why This Sale Matters More Than a Typical Garage Find

Unlike a random garage sale or estate sale, a Friends of the Library sale comes with a straightforward quality filter. Volunteers sort and organize donations, pulling items in poor condition before they hit the tables. You are not digging through water-damaged paperbacks or cracked jewel cases. The proceeds go directly back to supporting library programs, so the purchase does double work: you get reading material at a fraction of retail, and the money stays in the community.

Flower Mound’s library system has leaned harder into programming over the past several years — the facility at Broadmoor Lane runs a full slate of events through the summer and into fall. The Friends group is a large part of what funds those extras. Buying a $2 hardcover here is a more direct form of civic participation than it might appear.

One More Event to Note at the Library That Same Weekend

If you are already planning a trip to the library on Saturday, August 8, the Walk with a Doc community wellness walk is scheduled that same morning at 10:00 AM at Heritage Park. That is a separate location, but the two events together make for a productive Saturday in Flower Mound without straying far from the library corridor.
