Flower Mound’s Biggest Summer Night Is Three Weeks Out

If you’ve lived in Flower Mound for more than one summer, you already know that the Fourth of July here runs longer and louder than a single backyard barbecue. Independence Fest 2026 stretches from a morning children’s parade all the way through a headlining concert and fireworks show — and the bulk of the evening programming is free.

Here is what the day looks like, where to be, and what to plan for.

The Children’s Parade: Morning Kickoff

The day opens at Leonard and Helen Johns Community Park with the annual Children’s Parade. This is the low-key, high-charm half of the day — kids in red-white-and-blue, face painting stations, activities, and free hot dogs. It is the kind of morning that photographs well and moves at a pace families with young children can actually enjoy.

If you are coming primarily for the evening concert and fireworks, you can skip the parade entirely — but if you have kids in elementary school, the parade portion is worth building into your morning.

The Evening at Bakersfield Park

The main celebration shifts to Bakersfield Park at 1201 Duncan Lane for the evening program. The lineup runs through several hours of live entertainment before the fireworks close things out.

The Lineup

Three acts are on the bill:

  • Emerald City Band — a high-energy dance and variety act that has appeared at major Texas festivals
  • Le Freak — a disco and funk cover band built around the music that defined the late 1970s and early 1980s
  • Gabby Barrett — the headline act and the biggest name on the 2026 bill; Barrett’s country crossover single “I Hope” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and crossed over to mainstream pop, making her one of the more recognizable names to perform at a Flower Mound civic event in recent years

The combination of Emerald City and Le Freak as openers means the pre-fireworks hours lean heavily toward dancing and classic crowd-pleasers — a deliberate warm-up for a headliner with broad multi-generational appeal.

What Is Free

The evening program, the fireworks show, and off-site parking are all free. That is worth repeating plainly: you do not need to purchase a ticket to watch Gabby Barrett perform or to see the fireworks. Off-site parking is provided, so plan to arrive early and use the designated lots rather than hunting for street parking near Bakersfield Park, which fills well before the first act takes the stage.

Practical Notes for the Day

Two locations, one day. The parade is at Leonard and Helen Johns Community Park; the evening festivities are at Bakersfield Park, 1201 Duncan Lane. These are separate sites, so map both in advance if you plan to attend both portions.

Parking. Use the free off-site parking. The town has structured this to move crowds efficiently, and driving directly to Bakersfield Park on the evening of the Fourth will cost you time you would rather spend closer to the stage.

Weather. Early July in North Texas averages highs in the upper 90s with heat indices that push past 100. If you are bringing children or elderly family members, hydration and shade access between sets are not optional considerations. The overnight low on July 4 typically drops into the upper 70s, which makes the later evening hours more comfortable — fireworks timing works in your favor there.

Lineup timing. Official start times for individual acts have not been published as of today. Check the Independence Fest page in the days leading up to July 4 for a detailed schedule.

Why This Year Feels Different

Most years, Independence Fest draws its crowd on the strength of the fireworks and the family-friendly atmosphere alone. Booking Gabby Barrett as the 2026 headliner raises the profile of the concert portion meaningfully. Barrett has national chart history and a fanbase that extends well beyond the typical local festival circuit. For a free community event, that is a significant get.

The town has run Independence Fest long enough that the logistics are smooth — parking, crowd flow, and the transition from parade to evening program are well-rehearsed. For residents who have attended before, 2026 offers the same reliable framework with a headliner worth showing up early for.

Mark July 4 on the calendar, confirm your parking plan, and arrive before Emerald City takes the stage.
