Woof-O-Ween Returns to Hound Mound on Oct. 21 — No Registration Required
Flower Mound's annual Halloween dog costume contest hits Hound Mound Dog Park on Oct. 21 from 5:30–7:30 PM, with five prize categories and no sign-up needed.

Hound Mound Hosts Woof-O-Ween on Oct. 21
Flower Mound’s most dog-forward Halloween tradition is back. Woof-O-Ween, presented by Whataburger, runs Wednesday, October 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at Hound Mound Dog Park, 1200 Garden Ridge Rd. There is no registration, no entry fee listed, and no advance paperwork — just show up with a costumed dog and you are in.
The event is part of the Town of Flower Mound Parks and Recreation Department’s 2026 special events calendar, a lineup of more than 50 community gatherings scheduled across the year at venues throughout town.
Five Costume Categories, Five Chances to Win
Organizers will hand out prizes across five distinct costume categories, which means a single well-dressed dog has multiple shots at recognition depending on how the costume reads to judges. The categories are:
- Most Creative
- Scariest
- Funniest
- Best Homemade
- Best Pet/Owner Look-Alike
That last category rewards the owners who commit fully. If you and your dog are both going as, say, a pair of hot dogs, this is your moment. The look-alike category has historically drawn some of the most elaborate dual costumes at the event, and the town is clearly keeping it on the roster for 2026.
What Else to Expect
Beyond the judging, the event includes treats, music, and a dedicated photo area. The photo setup gives owners a clean backdrop for capturing the costume before the evening light fades — practical given that a 5:30 PM start in mid-October still has some usable daylight in North Texas, but the 7:30 PM close means attendees will finish under evening conditions.
Hound Mound Dog Park is one of Flower Mound’s more visited recreational amenities, positioned off Garden Ridge Road with separate areas for dogs of different sizes. The park’s layout gives an event like Woof-O-Ween room to spread out without crowding the standard off-leash areas.

Context: A Busy October for Flower Mound Parks
Woof-O-Ween lands in the middle of an unusually full stretch on the Parks and Recreation calendar. Earlier in October, the department is running Chalk the Park — an all-ages outdoor chalk art competition at Twin Coves Park on Oct. 17 from 10 AM to 1 PM — and the Pumpkin Plunge, a glow-in-the-dark pool event at the CAC Indoor Pool on Oct. 17 from 6 to 8:30 PM. Those two events share a date; Woof-O-Ween follows four days later.
The department’s decision to cluster multiple distinct events across a single October week reflects the broader ambition of the 2026 calendar. More than 50 community gatherings were planned for the year, a figure the town has been promoting alongside its 2026 U.S. News and World Report ranking as the third-best place to live in the nation.
For a mid-week evening event with no barrier to entry, Woof-O-Ween is one of the easier things on the calendar to actually attend. Owners with a creative streak and a patient dog have until October 21 to pull a costume together.
